A New Chapter for SWAPA Land
We are excited to welcome Russell Cauthen as Chief Executive Officer of SWAPA Land effective October 1. Russell brings more than 20 years of experience in agricultural technology and farm efficiency, along with a passion for helping people make the most of the land they own and manage.
His leadership marks an exciting next chapter for SWAPA Land as we continue to strengthen our commitment to serving our clients, supporting our team, and helping landowners realize the full potential of their property.
Agriculture, Technology & Experience
Russell’s career in agriculture began long before precision agriculture became commonplace. While still in high school, he began working in remote sensing and aerial technology, helping bridge the gap between emerging technology and practical applications in the field.
That early experience grew into a career focused on using data, technology, and sound management decisions to improve efficiency and profitability. Most recently, Russell founded Mid-South Ag Partners, an agricultural consulting firm built around the belief that every acre is different and that growers deserve independent, data-driven advice tailored to their individual operations.
Throughout his career, Russell has seen firsthand how asking better questions, understanding the customer, and looking beyond conventional approaches can lead to better outcomes. His involvement with Mississippi Farm Bureau, including serving as president of Madison County Farm Bureau, has further connected him to the people, priorities, and challenges that shape Mississippi agriculture.
The same principles that help a farmer improve the productivity of every acre can also help a landowner better understand a property's potential, make informed decisions, and build lasting value.
A Broader Vision for Land Ownership
Russell sees a natural fit between his background in agricultural technology and the mission of SWAPA Land. The same principles that help a farmer improve the productivity of every acre can also help a landowner better understand a property's potential, make informed decisions, and build lasting value.
He believes SWAPA Land's commitment to listening to clients and understanding their individual goals creates an opportunity to deliver something that goes well beyond a traditional real estate transaction.
A key part of that vision is the relationship between SWAPA Land and its sister company, Steward Link. By working together, the two companies can help landowners look at their property from multiple perspectives—whether that means buying or selling land, identifying opportunities to improve its financial performance, exploring conservation programs, enhancing wildlife habitat, or planning for the next generation.
Russell believes this collaborative approach creates tremendous opportunity to serve clients more completely and build relationships that last long after a transaction closes.
Mississippi Roots
Originally from Clarksdale in the Mississippi Delta, Russell developed his passion for the land and the outdoors growing up in a region where agriculture and the land are woven into everyday life.
Today, he and his wife, Allison, reside in Madison, Mississippi, where he continues to enjoy all things outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and wildlife habitat management. Whether spending time in the woods or on the water, Russell appreciates the opportunity to be outside and the responsibility that comes with being a good steward of the land.
His personal passion for the outdoors reflects the same values of conservation, thoughtful management, and long-term vision that align so well with SWAPA Land and Steward Link.
Russell and Allison have two children: Sherrod, a sophomore at Mississippi State University, and Carlisle, a senior at Jackson Academy. The family attends Pinelake Church.
A Note from Russell
I’m excited to begin this new chapter with SWAPA Land and grateful for the opportunity to be part of a team that shares a genuine appreciation for the land and a commitment to the people who own it. What drew me to SWAPA Land is the belief that our work should be about more than property. It should be about people, relationships, and helping each client make decisions that support their goals and the future they envision for their land.
I believe we have a tremendous opportunity ahead of us, especially through our partnership with Steward Link. By working together, we can bring a broader perspective to land ownership and help our clients explore opportunities they may not have considered before. Whether the goal is to buy or sell property, improve its value, enhance wildlife habitat, explore conservation opportunities, or preserve a family legacy, I want our clients to know they have a team that will listen, work hard, and genuinely care about the outcome.
To our clients and friends, thank you for the trust you place in SWAPA Land. I look forward to meeting those I haven’t had the pleasure of knowing and spending time with those who have already made this company what it is today. I hope you will always feel comfortable reaching out, asking questions, sharing ideas, and letting us know what matters most to you. The best relationships are built on trust, and I believe that starts with listening and doing what we say we will do.
To our team, I’m excited to join you and build on the strong foundation already in place. I know that a company's greatest strength is its people, and I look forward to learning from each of you, hearing your ideas, and working together to make SWAPA Land even better. My hope is that we continue to challenge ourselves, look for new ways to serve, and never lose sight of the personal relationships that set us apart. We have an opportunity to do meaningful work, and I’m excited about what we can accomplish together.
Most of all, I want us to remember that land is personal. It represents hard work, family history, future plans, and often a lifetime of memories. It deserves thoughtful consideration, and the people who entrust it to us deserve our very best.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of this team and look forward to what lies ahead. I hope to see many of you out on the land soon—and if you happen to catch a Mississippi State game with me, you’ll understand that being a Bulldog fan takes patience. Football keeps us humble, but thankfully, baseball gives us a reason to believe brighter days are always just around the corner!
